Bratt & Bratt, LC has moved! We are now located in the same as building as before- 10 Hospital Center Common, Hilton Head, SC 29926- but are now on the Second Floor in Suite 400, occupying a portion of the "Common Loft". Phone number, fax number, and e-mail addresses remain the same. Client meetings are by appointment, and are available by telephone, video and in-person. Of course, the same personable and professional services remain as well.
Equally of note, attorney Bill Bratt has moved on! After 40 years of practice, he has retired from the active practice of law. Attorney Sarah E. C. Southerland has now assumed responsibility for the firm. Those familiar with us know that Sarah has been with the firm in a variety of capacities for roughly nine years, and focuses on the same areas of practice as did Bill. This website will be undergoing further edits to account for this change, but much as "the shoemaker's children's shoes" get attention after customers are attended to, the firm's internal work comes after that of our clients.
Health Response Update
updated as of November 1, 2024
We remain aware that the corona virus, RSV, and whatever else may yet appear on our shores may constitute a greater health risk to our older clients, young children of our clients and staff, and to those with existing underlying chronic problems. We encourage you, if you desire, to take advantage of our remote conference options. Likewise, while there is no masking requirement at this time, we do ask that you consider mask use for in person conferences if you have a fever or other troubling symptoms of illness.
As always, we wish the best for our clients, business associates, friends and their familiies for the upcoming Holiday Season, and the New Year. We hope you will all enjoy peace, health and goodwill, and avoid the chaos which appears to be plaguing our Country and World.
Welcome to Bratt & Bratt, LC- A Probate & Estate Planning Firm
We seek to resurrect the ideals of an earlier day, when attorneys were trusted advisors, legal counselors and often friends. We recognize that knowledge of the law alone, and the technical ability to draft complex documents, is not enough to assist our clients in planning for their later years, or in supporting them through the loss of a loved one.
Competence, compassion, integrity and respect are the cornerstones of the relationships we build with all of our clients.
Who We Are
Success born of experience: Thirty plus years of personal experience, and character three generations in the making.
What Makes Us Different
Bill Bratt is a third generation attorney, tracing back to a small town New Jersey practice established by his grandfather in the early 1900's. From an early age, he was immersed in the expectation that attorneys were held to a higher standard, and that the law was a calling to help and protect others, rather than a license to take advantage of them.
What We Offer
Our primary focus is essentially on two sides of one coin: First, whether called estate planning, elder law or succession planning, we assist you in creating a personalized plan for the protection and management of your assets should a time ever arise when you can no longer protect and manage them personally. After you are gone, your documents will meet the unique needs of your spouse and other loved ones. Your plan is individualized to your specific needs and circumstances rather than being a "one size fits all" Trust Agreement form. Second, after a loved one has died, we guide you through the estate or trust administration process, handling as much- or as little- as you desire in order to make this difficult time as painless and cost-effective as possible. Providing our clients with peace of mind is just as important to us as providing legal excellence.
In addition to our traditional, in-person services, we also offer an expedited, on-line service to assist you in resolving probate issues affecting South Carolina real estate owned by a non-resident decedent. Rapid, professional service at a surprisingly affordable cost will eliminate at least one major detail in handling a loved one's estate.
